THE GOAT AND HER TWO CHILDREN

The Goat and Her Two Children Fairy Tale

There was a goat who had two children, one was Alur, one was Balur.

One day she said:

-‘I’m going to bring grass for you. If the wolf should come don’t open the door for him. And look at out from at the crack of the door, and if you see that the foot is black, know he is wolf. If you see a white foot you’ll know that it’s me.’

The wolf had all the time been listening, as soon as the goat was gone he dyed his foot with flour to make it white, and came and knocked at the door.

They called out:
-‘Who’s that?’

The wolf replied:
-‘Open the door, I’ve brought grass for you.’

The Children:
 -‘Show us your foot.’

The wolf showed his foot in at the crack of the door. The Children saw the wolf white foot and they opened the door and let him in. So he carried off Alur and Balur then ran away to his house.

When the mother goat came back she saw there was no one in the house and she began to call.

She couldnt find her children and understood that the wolf carried off her children.

So she went climbed on to the roof of the wolf’s house. Then she started to hopping on roof.

The wolf cried:
-‘Who are you on my roof up there?’

The goat:
-‘This is me, Goat.You have stolen Alur of mine, You have stolen Balur of mine.’

The wolf :
 -‘Yes, I’ve stolen them.’ What can you do?’

 The goat :
-‘Come, let’s go and fight.’

The goat went and got a jug and filled it with milk to took to the knife-grinder and said:
-‘Please sharpen my horns.’

The knife-grinder sharpened the goat’s horns. But the knife-grinder saw that the goat is very sad.

Knife-grinder asked the goat:
‘-Why you are so sad ?’

The goat answered sadly:
-‘The wolf carried off my children. I want to rescue my children from him.’

The knife-grinder had upset.
Then the goat left and started to wait the wolf for fight.

After goat, the wolf went to knife-grinder and said :
-‘Hey! Sharpen my teeth.’

The Knife-grinder said:
-‘Come and open your mouth.’

The wolf opened his mouth, but the knife-grinder instead of sharpening, rasped his teeth. Then the knife-grinder said:
-‘Your teeth are sharper than a knife. No longer you can go.

The wolf left there and met with goat near of a little stream of water.

The goat said:
-‘Come, let’s first drink our fill,’ and she put her head down over the water, but she took care to drink none herself. The wolf drank and drank till he could drink no more.

Then the goat said:

-‘Come along, let’s jump across the stream.’

The wolf went to jump over the stream, but he was so swollen up with water that he fell in. Then the goat smote him in the stomach with one of her sharp horns and tore it right open, and so he died.

The goat saved Alur and Balur and took them to their home. After that time the goat and her two children live together happily.
